How many lessons do I need to take?
It is mandatory to take 12 EDT lessons.
Essential Driver Training (EDT) is a structured training programme for learner drivers consisting of 12 driving sessions with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), or six sessions if you are eligible for reduced EDT.
The EDT programme will give you the tools to practice and become a competent and safe driver, the RSA recommend at least 3 hours practice for every EDT module.
How much do lessons cost?
- 1 Hour Lesson – €55
- 2 Hour Lesson – €100
- 12 x hour package – €560
What areas do you cover?
We cover the following, Celbridge, Lucan, Leixlip, Maynooth, Clane, Kilcock and surrounding areas.
If you are from outside these areas, don’t worry, please contact us as we can arrange meeting points at bus, train stations within our coverage area.
Do you offer pick-up and drop-off?
Yes we offer pick-up and drop-off service within the coverage area to suit you.

Do you offer evening and weekend lessons?
Yes evenings and weekends are available subject to availability, we will work with you so you can fit your lessons into your busy schedule.
How long is a driving lesson?
Our driving lessons are generally 2 hours, we find this is really beneficial to our students as it gives them more time and actual driving experience on the road. We cover 2 x EDT modules in each lesson so this also means the student can complete the course in a timelier manner.
When can I apply for my driving test?
Once you have completed all 12 EDT lessons and have held your learner permit for 6 months you can apply to sit the driving test.

Once confirmed the dates and times will be provisionally held for a period of 24 hours, prepayment is required to confirm booking.
What's your cancellation policy?
At ARCL Driving School, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. To maintain a fair and efficient schedule for all students and instructors, we ask that you adhere to the following cancellation and rescheduling guidelines:
Lesson Cancellation & Rescheduling
- Notice Requirement: We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a driving lesson.
- How to Cancel: Cancellations must be made by phone or email.
- Late Cancellation Fee: If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, a 50% late cancellation fee will apply, or the lesson may be forfeited without refund.
No-Shows
- Failure to attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice will be considered a no-show.
- No-shows are charged 100% of the lesson fee, and the lesson will not be rescheduled or refunded.
Instructor Cancellations
- If a lesson must be cancelled by your instructor, we will offer to reschedule at your convenience or issue a full refund for that session.
Emergency Situations
- We understand emergencies happen. If you experience a medical or personal emergency, please contact us as soon as possible. Documentation may be required to waive cancellation fees.
